Greenfield Park, Quebec, January 26, 2017 – Sherry Romanado, Member of Parliament for Longueuil—Charles-LeMoyne, was today appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, the Honourable Kent Hehr. Effective January 30, 2017, Ms Romanado will be responsible for supporting Minister Hehr in his mandate to ensure Canadian veterans and their families receive the respect, support, care, services and economic opportunities they deserve.

“I am honoured and excited to take on these new duties as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, two areas that are extremely close to my heart. I look forward to working with Minister Hehr and his team on an ambitious mandate to deliver more for the men and women who have selflessly served our country,” said Ms Romanado.

Elected in 2015, Ms Romanado served on both the Standing Committee on National Defense and the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs, which in December 2016 released a key report entitled Reaching Out: Improving Service Delivery to Canadian Veterans.

The mother of two sons serving in the Canadian Armed Forces, she has served as Vice-President and Director of Communications for the CCG 1979 Centennial cadet corps in Greenfield Park, and is a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 94.

Ms Romanado is one of the 34 parliamentary secretaries named or confirmed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today.

“Each of these individuals, from a variety of backgrounds and communities across Canada, bring their own skills and points of view to government. I am confident they will complement our current cabinet strengths and help build an even better future for all Canadians,” said the Prime Minister.
