The impacts of climate change have been felt across communities in Canada, with the effects of last season’s extreme weather and devastating wildfires still fresh in our memories. This is why our government is taking strong steps to reduce the harmful effects of climate change and create a clean, sustainable future for all to enjoy.
We are putting forward a credible strategy to get Canada’s electricity grid to net-zero and making record investments in clean technology. These efforts contribute to growing Canada’s Clean Economy and creating good-paying jobs for hard-working Canadians. In the past two years, our commitment to climate action has made Canada the leader in emissions reduction among G7 nations.
Take a look at what’s to come and the positive outcomes of our climate mitigation efforts:
– As a result of our work, Canada’s emissions have declined by 7% since 2015, and for the first time ever, Canada is on track to meeting climate targets.
– The recently tabled Budget 2024 sets aside $903 million for a Canada Green Buildings Strategy to cut emissions and make energy more affordable for Canada’s third-largest emitting sector.
– Budget 2024 also invests more than $700 million into clean fuel projects.
– The new $800 million Canada Greener Affordable Housing program will help renters and homeowners lower their energy bills and emissions by supporting energy-efficient home upgrades.
– We have also established Canada’s Electric Vehicle Availability Standard to ensure that 100% of vehicles sold by 2035 are zero emission.
Our government is committed to ensuring a clean future for all Canadians including coming generations. Take a look at Canada`s future:
– Clean energy jobs are estimated to grow to 2.68 million by 2050, according to modelling by independent experts from Clean Energy Canada and Navius Research.
– Moving forward, Canada will finish updating existing regulations to reduce oil and gas methane by at least 75 percent by 2030.
– Canada is also on track to achieve its goal of reducing emissions by 40-45 percent by 2030 with the ultimate goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
As a result of the efforts of all Canadians in collaboration with government measures, while Canada’s economy continues to grow, our emissions continue to fall. Together let`s continue to build a future with the promise of a healthy population, a lush environment, and a strong economy in the face of climate change.
