We all know that Canada is facing a rapidly changing world filled with increasing uncertainty. The trading system and international order that have supported Canada’s economic growth for decades are changing. This is affecting businesses, displacing workers, and causing significant disruption and upheaval for Canadians. In this context of global uncertainty, the new Liberal government is focusing on what it can control. Budget 2025: A Strong Canada is a plan to transform the national economy from one dependent on a single trading partner to a strong, more self-reliant, and more resilient economy in the face of global disruption.
The government’s plan leverages Canada’s strengths: world-class industries, a talented and highly skilled workforce, a diverse range of trading partnerships, and a thriving domestic market where Canadians will be the best customers. We are building an economy made by Canadians, for Canadians.
This plan also aims to build major infrastructure, housing, and industries that foster economic growth and ensure lasting prosperity. A plan that will protect our communities, our borders, and our way of life. A plan that will strengthen Canadians’ ability to succeed through better career prospects, efficient public services, and a more affordable life.
To do this, the new Canadian government needs a budget that focuses on investment. We will reduce operating expenses and invest more in the workforce, businesses, and national infrastructure that will grow our economy. Budget 2025 implements the comprehensive spending review that modernizes government, improves efficiency, and delivers better results and services for Canadians. It includes savings totaling $60 billion and revenues over five years and includes historic investments in housing, infrastructure, defence, productivity, and competitiveness. These are wise and strategic investments that will result in total investments of over $1 trillion over the next five years through smarter government spending and greater capital investment.
Global uncertainty and disruptions from our neighbour to the south are being felt across the country, including in my riding. Faced with these challenges, our new government is taking decisive action. This plan will allow us to protect and transform our strategic industries and invest in ourselves to build a strong economy that benefits all our communities, including Longueuil—Charles-LeMoyne.
