Building a home in Canada is about to get a lot easier and our new government is taking action to make housing more attainable.

Our governement announced the launch of Build Canada Homes (BCH) – a mission-driven agency that will transform how we build housing in Canada. BCH is central to our plan to Build Canada Strong and will ensure that we deliver on our commitment to reach 500,000 housing starts a year in the next 10 years.

Build Canada Homes will prioritize:

• Building affordable housing at scale, including on public land,
• Catalyzing a new housing industry, leading to faster, smarter, and more efficient construction,
• Providing flexible financing that empowers affordable homebuilders,
• Stretching every public dollar to ensure efficiency and high impact, and above all,
• Doing this with Canadian materials, Canadian workers, and Canadian technology.

We’ve announced an initial capitalization of $13 Billion for BCH. This initial investment will establish BCH while simultaneously:

• Partnering with proponents, such as market and non-market homebuilders, provinces, territories, municipalities, and other stakeholders, on multi-year projects at scale,
• Attracting new capital from non-traditional investors, and
• Responding swiftly to shifts in the market.

This is the first time Canada will have a dedicated organization solely dedicated to this cause.

This announcement is just the beginning, and we’re going to bring all the right people together, with the right tools, under one roof, to build more homes faster.
