Now more than ever, the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a lifeline for Canadians with small children continuing to struggle with the financial impacts of COVID-19. That is why our government is providing additional payments through the CCB this year to support families through the pandemic.

Families will receive up to $1,200 per child under the age of six, with the first payment of up to $600 going out retroactively on May 28th. This temporary assistance will support more than two million children and help about 1.6 million families put food on the table, find alternatives to child care, and pay for at-home learning activities.

So far, the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) has helped lift nearly 435,000 children out of poverty by giving more money, tax-free, to 9 out of 10 families. But we know there’s more work to do.
