Longueuil, Quebec, July 6, 2017—The governments of Canada and Quebec recognize that investing in public transit infrastructure is crucial to economic growth, reducing pollution and creating inclusive communities where everyone has access to public services and job opportunities.

Sherry Romanado, Member of Parliament for Longueuil‒Charles-LeMoyne, and Nicole Ménard, Member of the National Assembly for Laporte and Chair of the Quebec Government Caucus, today announced an investment of more than $62.4 million for 34 projects for the Réseau de transport de Longueuil under the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund. The Government of Canada will provide nearly $34.7 million for these projects, and the Government of Quebec will contribute more than $27.7 million. The Réseau de transport de Longueuil will provide the remaining funds.

The projects made possible through this contribution include the purchase of 40 hybrid buses, 30 of which will be used on bus route 90 to replace buses that are at the end of their service life. Work will also be done to improve operation and maintenance centres, provide information access systems and Wi-Fi on buses, and make vehicles and stations more accessible to those with reduced mobility.

Once completed, these projects will make the Longueuil public transit network more reliable, effective and inclusive, meeting the community’s immediate needs while preparing for anticipated ridership increases in the future.
